Janel Quirante
Head Archivist
Janel Quirante is the Head Archivist of ‘Ulu‘ulu and oversees the daily operations of the archive. Before joining ‘Ulu‘ulu in 2010, Janel worked as a videotape preservation technician at the Bay Area Video Coalition in San Francisco and as the Visual Materials Archivist at the Hoover Institution Archives at Stanford University. She is a Lecturer in Creative Media at UH West O‘ahu, and Adjunct Faculty in Library and Information Science at UH Mānoa. Throughout her 25-year career in media and archives, Janel has enjoyed working with and leading teams that strive to present archival footage in innovative ways and has a deep respect for and commitment to preserving the moving image history of cultural heritage institutions. Her favorite archival media format is 2″ Quad videotape.
