Established in 2015 through the generous support of the Henry Ku‘ualoha and Muriel Roselani Giugni Fund of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation, the Roselani Media Preservation Internship is offered each summer at ʻUluʻulu, Hawaiʻi’s official state archive for moving images dedicated to the care, preservation, and digitization of film and videotape related to the history and culture of Hawaiʻi.
The purpose of the Roselani Internship is to promote understanding of public policy development and/or the political process through the preservation of Hawai‘i’s media history which covers the political, cultural and historical landscape of these islands. The Roselani Internship provides a student of merit who, for economic or other circumstances, would not otherwise be able to participate, an opportunity to acquire practical experience in a moving image archive.
The Roselani Internship at ‘Ulu‘ulu is a host site for the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) Pathways Fellowship Program. AMIA Pathways Fellows may complete their internship at ‘Ulu‘ulu if accepted into both programs.
Intern activities at ʻUluʻulu may include opportunities in:
- Cataloging and description of digital video files
- Processing and creating inventories of archival audiovisual materials
- Preservation activities and environmental monitoring
- Digitization of videotapes and digital file quality control
- Reference and outreach, including presentations and events
Eligibility and Application
- Applicant must be enrolled (full time or part time) in a moving image preservation or archival academic program; or must be a recent graduate of such a program
- The applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.0 in their academic program
- The applicant must be authorized to work in the United States
The applicant must submit
- Internship application
- Cover letter describing the applicant’s relevant experience and interest in an internship at ʻUluʻulu
- Current resume or CV
- One letter of recommendation
- Transcript from the applicant’s most recent academic program
